Eligibility Criteria

Must have 600 insured hours (or meet self-employed criteria) and medical proof.

Application Process

1. Create a My Service Canada Account.
2. Gather documents: SIN, banking info, ROE (Record of Employment), and a medical certificate (for sickness or disability).
3. Apply online at EI Benefits Portal.
4. Submit supporting documents: Upload or mail your medical certificate and any caregiving documentation.
5. Wait for decision: You’ll receive a notice of eligibility and payment schedule if approved.

Appeals Process

1. Request Reconsideration through My Service Canada Account or by contacting Service Canada.
2. If denied again, appeal to the Social Security Tribunal (SST) – General Division.
3. You can further appeal to the SST – Appeal Division.
4. Legal representation is optional, and you can submit new evidence at each stage.
