Must have 600 insured hours (or meet self-employed criteria) and medical proof.
Application Process
- Create a My Service Canada Account.
- Gather documents: SIN, banking info, ROE (Record of Employment), and a medical certificate (for sickness or disability).
- Apply online at EI Benefits Portal.
- Submit supporting documents: Upload or mail your medical certificate and any caregiving documentation.
- Wait for decision: You’ll receive a notice of eligibility and payment schedule if approved.
Possible Outcomes & Appeal Process
Appeals Process
- Request Reconsideration through My Service Canada Account or by contacting Service Canada.
- If denied again, appeal to the Social Security Tribunal (SST) – General Division.
- You can further appeal to the SST – Appeal Division.
- Legal representation is optional, and you can submit new evidence at each stage.
