Description
The FSCD program provides individualized supports and services to families of children under 18 with disabilities. It aims to help families with the extraordinary costs related to their child’s disability and promote the child’s healthy development.
Benefit Amount
There is no fixed amount; supports are tailored to each family’s needs and may include:
- Respite care
- Specialized services (e.g., speech therapy, occupational therapy)
- Medical supplies and equipment
- Behavioural supports
- Child care assistance
- Travel and accommodation for medical appointments
Note: In 2025, the FSCD budget saw a 3.61% increase, but this was below inflation and population growth
Eligibility Criteria
- To qualify, applicants must:
- Live in Alberta
- Have a child under 18 years old
- Have a child with a documented disability that significantly affects daily living
- Provide:
- Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residency
- A diagnosis letter from a qualified professional
- Proof of guardianship (if applicable)
Application Process
- Create an account on the FSCD online portal.
- Upload required documents:
- Child’s ID and diagnosis
- Supporting documents (e.g., assessments, proof of guardianship)
- Submit the application (you cannot add documents afterward).
- Watch for confirmation via email.
Possible Outcomes & Appeal Process
If your application is denied or you disagree with the level of support:
- You can request a review or file an appeal.
- Contact your FSCD caseworker or the regional office.
- Provide additional documentation or clarification as needed.
