Description

Public housing refers to a rental program that provides income-based subsidies for the rental of housing for residents most in need. Income-based assistance is available for Housing NWT-owned public housing units in 31 Northwest Territories (NWT) communities.

Eligibility Criteria

The amount of rent you pay every month is determined by the total household incomes of people living in your household that are over the age of 19.

No household pays less than $70 per month or more than $1,625 per month.

Seniors receive up to a $1,000 per month deduction from their income which will lower their rent calculation.

Application Process

Applications are open year-round for public housing.

Contact your Local Housing Organization or District Office to get an application.

Applicants must provide acceptable verification of income for all household members aged 19 years and over.

Rent is assessed annually.
