Eligibility Criteria

To get the Adult Learning and Training Support (ALTS):

  • You must be a Canadian Citizen or have permanent resident status.
  • You must be a resident of Nunavut if you are accessing Territorial funding.
  • You must be in need of skills training to be competitively employable.
  • You must be 18 years of age or older.

Application Process

Application for ALTS is different for each person. All interested applicants must speak to a Career Development Officer (CDO) to discuss their personal situation and eligibility.

To talk to your regional Career Development Officer (CDO), call one of the following numbers:

Qikiqtani – 1.800.567.1514

Kivalliq – 1.800.953.8516

Kitikmeot – 1.800.661.0845

You will need to complete Employment Assistance Services (EAS) and Adult Learning and Training Supports (ALTS) application forms.

Complete your application and send it and your acceptance letter (from your training institution) to your regional Career Development office (CDO).

Complete an action plan with your CDO and wait for your CDO to review your eligibility.

If you are approved, you will sign a sponsorship agreement outlining your responsibilities and the consequences for not living up to these.

You will also need to provide banking information so that you will be able to have your sponsorship funding deposited.

You will need to call Top of the World or e-mail ALTS@topoftheworld.com in order to arrange your travel to your training location.

You may also need to submit receipts to your CDO and potentially complete an after-intervention survey.

There are no deadlines to apply to ALTS as skills training occurs at all times throughout the year.

However, applications and letters of acceptance from your institution must be submitted at least four weeks in advance of your program start date to ensure that funding is deposited on-time.
