Description
AADL helps Albertans with long-term disabilities, chronic illnesses, or terminal conditions live independently by covering part of the cost of medical equipment and supplies (e.g., wheelchairs, hearing aids, walkers).
Benefit Amount
- Cost-share model: AADL covers 75%, and clients pay 25% up to a maximum of $500 per family per year.
- Full coverage for low-income clients (e.g., AISH recipients).
Eligibility Criteria
- Alberta resident with a valid Personal Health Number (PHN).
- Must have a long-term (6+ months) or chronic medical condition.
- Requires assessment by an AADL-approved authorizer (e.g., OT, PT, RN).
Application Process
- Assessment Required: You must be assessed by an AADL-approved authorizer (e.g., occupational therapist, physiotherapist, nurse).
- Authorizer Submits Request: The authorizer determines your needs and submits the request to AADL.
- Vendor Contact: If approved, you’ll be referred to an approved vendor to receive the equipment or supplies.
- Cost-Share: You may be responsible for 25% of the cost unless exempt (e.g., AISH recipients).
