Description
AISH provides financial and health-related assistance to eligible adults in Alberta who have a permanent medical condition that severely limits their ability to earn a living. The program supports basic living costs, health benefits, and additional personal needs.
Benefit Amount
$1,787 Living Allowance with $212 per Child, and Potential Benefits for Personal Items and Health (Pharmacare, Dental, emergency, etc.)
Eligibility Criteria
You must meet all of the following:
- Age: 18 years or older.
- Residency: Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Alberta.
- Medical: Have a severe and likely permanent disability that substantially limits your ability to earn a living.
- Income: Your income and that of your spouse/partner must be below program thresholds.
- Assets: You must have less than $100,000 in non-exempt assets (e.g., savings, investments).
Application Process
Complete the AISH Application Package, including:
- Personal information
- Medical report (completed by a physician)
- Financial documentation
- Submit to an AISH office or online.
- Wait for assessment and decision (can take several weeks).
Possible Outcomes & Appeal Process
If your application is denied or your benefits are changed:
- Request a Review: Contact AISH within 30 days of the decision.
- Appeal Panel: If unsatisfied, you can request a hearing with the AISH Appeal Panel.
- Final Decision: The panel’s decision is binding unless new evidence is presented.
