Cognitive Disability Strategy Support (CDS)

Description

The CDS provides services and financial support to individuals with cognitive disabilities and their families. It is designed to address unmet needs that cannot be supported by other systems, using evidence-based interventions.

Benefit Amount

Eligible individuals may receive:

  • Cognitive Disability Consultants: Professionals who help families develop behavioral support plans.
  • Cognitive Disability Benefit: An income-tested financial benefit to address specific unmet needs.

Amount: Varies based on financial need and the assessed level of disability impact.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a resident of Saskatchewan
  • Have a cognitive disability that:
  • Results in long-term limitations (present from early age, except in cases of acquired brain injury)
  • Creates unmet needs that can be addressed through evidence-based interventions
  • Not be eligible for support from another system (e.g., education, health, or social services)
  • Provide identification and possibly a CRA Notice of Assessment

Application Process

There are three ways to apply:

  • Self-Application: Download and complete the CDS Application Package and send it to a Cognitive Disability Consultant.
  • Assisted Application: Ask a case worker or someone currently working with you to help complete the form.
  • Consultant Support: If you don’t have a case worker and need help, a Cognitive Disability Consultant can assist you directly.

Appeal Process

If your application is denied or you disagree with the decision, you can request a review or appeal through the CDS Provincial Office.
