Saskatchewan Employment Incentive (SEI)

Description

The Saskatchewan Employment Incentive (SEI) provides working families who have low incomes with a monthly financial benefit, Supplementary Health Benefits, access to discounted bus passes (where available), connections to employment supports through the Ministry of Immigration and Career Training and access to the Saskatchewan Housing Benefit through the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.

Benefit Amount

The amount of the incentive is based on:

Any person who needs financial help can apply for income support. You may be eligible if the following apply to you (and your spouse/partner, if you have one):

  • Your family income; and
  • The number of eligible children in your family.

Maximum SEI amounts are available when your family income from employment and/or self-employment falls between $500 and $2,200 per month, before deductions.

Eligibility Criteria

You may be eligible for SEI if all of the following apply to you:

  • You are a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident;
  • You are living in Saskatchewan;
  • You are 18 years or older;
  • You have a valid Social Insurance Number and Saskatchewan Health Services Number;
  • You do not receive Saskatchewan Income Support (SIS), Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability (SAID) benefits;
  • You have children ages 0-12 and/or children ages 13-17 who require childcare due to special circumstances, and receive the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) for those children or are a Person of Sufficient Interest (PSI) and have those children in your care; and
  • You have a minimum of $500 per month before deductions from employment and/or self-employment and a family income that is less than the monthly maximum listed below. If your monthly family income meets or exceeds the following maximums, your benefit will be zero.

Application Process

You can apply for the SEI through a Saskatchewan Account. Saskatchewan Accounts are free to use and allow residents to securely access a variety of online government services.

Plan to spend approximately 25 minutes to complete the application and attach documents needed to verify your information.

You and your spouse will need to provide the following, if applicable:

  • Pay stubs for all pay received in the month prior to your application;
  • If you are self-employed, a Notice of Assessment from Canada Revenue Agency for the previous tax year or, if it is the first year of your business, the previous month’s gross income;
  • Social Insurance Number(s);
  • Your family members’ Health Services Numbers; and
  • Your direct deposit information.
  • If you receive any of the following, you must provide the amount received:
    • Canada Pension Plan (CPP);
    • Employment Insurance (EI);
    • Old Age Security (OAS);
    • Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS);
    • Seniors Income Plan (SIP);
    • Workers Compensation Benefits;
    • Child or spousal support; or
    • Money from rental income.

You can access your SEI application anytime. You are also able to save and return to your SEI application. After you have completed and submitted your SEI application, it is important that you sign out from your Saskatchewan Account, clear your history/cookies, and close the browser completely. This is particularly important if you are using a computer or mobile device that is shared not your own.
