Description
Provides subsidized, quality housing (apartments, townhouses, etc.) for low-income Manitobans in greatest housing need. It’s managed by Manitoba Housing.
Benefit Amount
- Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI): Rent is set at ~30% of household income.
- Access to stable and appropriate housing.
- Support for maintaining tenancy and transitioning when needed.
Eligibility Criteria
- Core housing need (inadequate, unaffordable, or unsuitable housing).
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, refugee claimant, or legal resident.
- Household income at or below program limits.
- Annual renewal with income verification.
Application Process
- Choose preferred district/area (Winnipeg has five; other regions have local offices).
- Complete the RGI application (PDF or paper, available online or at offices).
- Submit by mail or in person to a Manitoba Housing office.
- Report changes in income, household or contact info immediately.
Appeal Process
- Appeals handled by Administrative Review Committee (ARC), composed of senior Manitoba Housing officials.
- Can appeal issues such as eligibility denial, rent calculation, lease additions, or warnings.
- ARC reviews and issues written decisions (can confirm, vary, or overturn).
